or at least, that's the best I can describe it. Many of those little graphics that are supposed to transcend the language barrier are baffling to me. I first encountered this while trying to get an office copy machine to make a freakin' copy. All these damn little symbols would light up and I would try to decipher them. The most striking one that I recall was a silhouette of a tiny man standing on top of a giant circle with little circles cut out of it around the outside. Was it a kind of gear? A bearing? Eventually I learned that it was supposed to be the dial of a dial phone (who in the hell uses dial phones?), and it meant CALL THE REPAIRMAN.
So yeah, your translation of the "receive bacon" graphic makes perfect sense to me!

If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.
Unfortunately, we are trying it, and it's not all that hot.
It's actually reminding me of signs I've seen from Pompeii, where a dairy simply has a goat carved on it's street sign because the ones doing the shopping (slaves) can't necessarily read. (and let's not get started on the Pompeian brothel, with the visual menu up on the walls. "da mihi hoc, et illud, et illud, sivis!" [gimme that, and that, and one o' those over there, please!])

my son (age 18) recently said that GWB was so dumb that he could not read a picture book. I thought that was hilarious! Now, I feel guilty for laughing at the the analogy. I would never want to lump you in with GWB even if you do claim to be "pictorially illiterate."

The funny thing is, along with the rampant verbal abuse, and the use of the suffix "fag" to attack anything and everything, the polymorphous perversity amazes me there, specifically the "balls aren't touching, so it's not gay" and "yes, I know it's a trap, I would still hit it."

Why they have people on who don't give their honest opinions is incredible to me. We may as well be watching the WWE.

... http://www.vietnamveteransagainstjoh...
It is worth pointing out that of the five, one was shot down and resulted in his capture by enemy soldiers, and another one was, reportedly, hit by "an accidentally fired rocket":
McCain's fourth aircraft loss occurred July 29, 1967, soon after he was assigned to the USS Forrestal as an A-4 Skyhawk pilot. While seated in the cockpit of his aircraft waiting his turn for takeoff, an accidently fired rocket slammed into McCain's plane. He escaped from the burning aircraft, but the explosions that followed killed 134 sailors, destroyed at least 20 aircraft, and threatened to sink the ship.
So by my count, McCain wrecked three jets. Two were wrecked for him.
Here's my favorite part:
"McCain had roughly 20 hours in combat," explains Bill Bell, a veteran of Vietnam and former chief of the U.S. Office for POW/MIA Affairs -- the first official U.S. representative in Vietnam since the 1973 fall of Saigon. "Since McCain got 28 medals," Bell continues, "that equals out to about a medal-and-a-half for each hour he spent in combat. There were infantry guys -- grunts on the ground -- who had more than 7,000 hours in combat ... "
