Great diary.  This is one of, if not the, major threats facing Our Democracy.

Without a truly independent, kaledioscopic, competitive, and profitable 4th Estate, 1984 will have arrived in full.

I have no issues with a cacaphony of news organizations that speak from all sides of the political arena - even Fox's existance  would be tolerable - if there were real, main stream alternatives from the other side(s) to balance out the story.

Otherwise we will simple have a US version of the old USSR Pravda system - all voices ultimately coming from the same source in stereo.

The media needs to be shattered into little tiny pieces, reflecting a plethora of views. Even conservatives get that, even if they incorrectly believe that the media is "liberal." Here's an example: what if you live in a smallish town where one guy owned everything. And you decided to run for office. But his wife and your wife had a spat and the guy decides that your name will never be mentioned. It could be just that petty.

The more different views expressed the better.

We're retiring Steve LaTourette (R-Family Values for You But Not for Me) and sending Judge Bill O'Neill to Congress from Ohio-14: http://www.oneill08.com/

        With the 'Other Side".

I hope Obama can turn this into a "Reverse Wedge" Issue that will Unit us rather than Divide us.

It would be a great start to healing Our Country of the Neocon nastiness and madness of the last 25 years.
