This sounds corny, and I'm not a Star Trek fan, but the one thing about the show(s') premise of the future was that humanity evolved past bigoted and fascist ideologies. I always think of that and have an inkling of optimism for the future beyond me.

But sadly, these horrors manage to churn themselves back up into a subdued, but present formability. Time and again, it seems we cycle back into an (almost) age of resurgence. It makes me wonder if we will ever get past these fundamental flaws in our own humanity.

We absolutely did not need seven years of the attempt to merge the corporate with the state. I think that's what's granting license to the rebirth of all of the bigotry and attempts at institutional oppression we're seeing lately.
