  •  take a break IndianaDemocrat (15+ / 0-)

I've read many of your posts and diaries. I know your support is somewhat skeptical to begin with.  I think you need to take a break and turn of the TV. Reflect on the choices and make a decision that's best for your concious as to who can provide us the Country we so yearn for.

You're reacting to blow by blow of a long war.  It's best to step back and go back to the issues.

Obama's characterization of Wright as a "Crazy Uncle" is not to say that Wright was in Barack's house all the time. You have to understand that Obama didn't see the Wright that was on the loops, and he tried to provide a context to that nutty bastard in Philly.

When Wright went back infront of the press and basically shit on Obama, possibly on purpose, Obama has to throw the man out and throw him out forcefully.

If Obama had NOT done this today, his candidacy was surely Doomed IMO.  Now that he's done it, I peg his potential to salvage this race at about 50/50.

He will lose Indiana by 10%
He will win NC by 5%
He will lose Kentucky and W. Virginia by 35%+
He may win Oregon by 8%
He will lose Puerto Rico by 15%

In the end, the key demographic will be the already announced Obama superdelegates, to see if they stick by him.

The saddest fact is this whole episode prolongs the battle through Denver now surely, I'd say we have an 80% shot at having a 2nd ballot as of today, and McCain's chances to win the Presidency now look pretty good.

Hope you come back to support Barack. This isn't his fault.  He's doing the best he can.  Being black and breaking free from the Slave Mentality is nearly impossible. Ask any upper class successful black person what it's like to hear from their old friends and acquantiances who often charge they've 'sold out' or become 'uncle tom'.  House Negro vs. Field Negro is at work here....

Good luck with your decision. in my opinion, Obama will still make the best pResident.  How and when he gets there though is difficult at best to peg down.

I fear it's pretty accurate. At least now we'll stop getting all the declarations from people that the race is over, relax, blah blah blah. That was really pissing me off.

In hindsight, I would say that's been a pretty big advantage for the Clinton camp; they had no illusions about this being a fight, while we were happy to rest on our laurels.

But the "True Belivers" here aren't going to want to hear it.

And those VERY SAME true believers are what has gotten the Party into this mess in the first place.

      •  Thank you ID (5+ / 0-)

btw, take a look at the updates i added from Noam and Marc. Some assessments and back story. Interesting INfo.  Apparently Barack flipped out this morning when he saw what Wright pulled at the National Press Club.  I think it's safe to say that Barack was shocked just as most of us were.

The people who sang along merrily to Wright and still defended him all day yesterday didn't do anyone any good.  I spent all night last night wishing I'd write a diary about House Negro vs. Field Negro... it's what's at work here.

Wright is plainly jealous of Obama.  Obama doesn't need Wright anymore and so Wright is trying to pull him back down to Earth.

The good news is that after today, Wright becomes less of a liability. I think voters may ultimately sympathize with Obama over this whole affair.  Judging by the way the situations unfolded, I don't think he knew Wright as well as he did and possibly saw him through rosy glasses. The stark reality was on dispaly yesterday and now Obama woke up to that. Had he not, my own trust in him was beginning to waver.  And I'm a HUGE Obama booster.  Check out my diary history.  I slogged weeks in houston to eek out a Precinct Win and Delegate win in the Texas Caucus'.

To see what WRIGHT WROUGHT has hurt me deeply, after having invested so much. I'm releaved to see that Obama has now thrown the bastard overboard.

        •  Steven R, doesn't look good for Obama that it (0+ / 0-)

took this long for him to give a strong response. While being prudent is a good trait for a president, taking weeks to admit he had a problem is too long and could point to his indecisiveness. Not a good trait for a president.

And, for all of you who from day one made excuses for the Wright, what say you now that Obama has taken this stand?

          It's the Supreme Court, stupid!

      •  I'm not an Obama true believer (7+ / 0-)

But I think he did what he needed to do today, and I don't see a problem with it.

Ideally, Obama should have aired this issue himself before the critics did. That would have been ideal.

But since he didn't, he did the next best thing - he did what he could to balance his desire not to disavow Wright with his campaign. Wright's weekend spree was the last straw.

As for the 20 years thing, I'm sure there's lots of disagreement in black churches on a range of issues. It doesn't mean people start leaving churches, especially if they haven't heard the things directly from the pastor. But it does mean that if the pastor gets insistent on damaging a person's campaign in public, the candidate has every right to defend himself.

I agree with you that this was not ideal, but I think Obama is at a better point now than you may fear.

Obama will recover from this. And if you are concerned about this issue, then you should be relieved to know that now Obama can challenge McCain regarding Hagee, whose endorsement McCain has not rejected.

how likely do we think that Obama would even be where he is now?  I think that Obama needed the time on this issue to allow the American people to get to know him.  To have a context with which to say, "Oh no, Wright does not speak for Obama."  His Philly speech would not have been as effective as it was had it been delivered at the beginning of this race because no one knew him.

rediculous! Only extreme pro black people think this way. I'm black and from the south and this thought NEVER crossed my mind. Please don't speak for all black people...please!
