someone told one of my volunteers, "I would never vote for that (deleted)."
I said to the volunteers upon hearing the story, "It makes me really excited to know that eight years from now, those racists are going to have to admit that the man they wouldn't vote for gave them health insurance, brought the troops home, and helped repair the economy, along with all of the other stuff he will do."
And if the racists can't admit it, well, at least they'll be provided for by a President that is of much greater character than they.

"OBAMA WILL BEAT YOU WITH THE SOCIAL SAFETY NET!!! AND YOU WILL LIIIIIKE IIIIIIIT!!!!"
I did not say that to any voters.

I say that to my racist parents. My mother's so bad she keeps threatening to move to Australia if "that thing" is elected. My reply is, "Good, just leave me the house." :-)
Shut her up, finally, yesterday. She ranted about Obama again...on what would have been my (ultra-liberal, married an Asian woman) brother's 40th birthday. I looked at her, and said, "You believe in heaven, right?"
"Of course."
"Good. Patrick just threw up on your head."
Finally shut her up.

by the way- scary - do we have the same mother!? Mine told me yesterday she was going to move to Australia if that N***** got elected.
I'm pretty positive she'll come around in the end. She's voted Dem her entire life. She seems to be losing it with older age though...her mind, I mean.

Seems to me that any civil rights movement can't really accomplish anything if it remains subservient to the prejudices of a day, which are always embodied by conservative attitudes (the same attitudes that kept women from voting, much less running for president).
To win Hillary has chosen to side with those on the wrong side of history.
I can't believe how embarrassing it is to read diaries where some random voter tells a volunteer "I'm not ready to vote for a colored (!) man."
Well, get ready. Progress won't stop b/c of your ignorance.

Or someone who calls his wife the "c-word."

demographic that would supposedly carry the day for Hillary. We can call them racist, blue collar, hard working, white trash or whatever. One term I have seen and I know it upsets certain elements of the very constituency for which it applies is "low information".
If "high information" voters support you, that's probably a pretty good place from which to launch a national campaign.
Now we can either discount a rather small segment of the population as racist, or we can give them the opportunity to ameliorate their "low information" status with some real, pertinent information about Sen. Obama and how his policies will benefit them and their families. Some will listen, others will go get their shotguns and chase you off the property.
It's a daunting task, but so is becoming the first black presidential candidate of any major party in the U.S.

a much larger category than simply the racist vote or the Hillary hard-core (many of whom are not low-information voters, they know what's up and they have chosen to support racist pandering).
The good news is that they're up for grabs for whoever runs the most effective campaign.

than any of the constituent sub-genres of idiocy that comprise the whole.
Here's to hoping that all American people realize their privilege (and right) to be an active, engaged, critical thinking element of the election process.
Many will allow prejudice to overwhelm their more reasonable faculties, but there are others for whom a good education on the candidates and the real issues (which may or may not comport with "effective" campaigning) will serve to engage them as thoughtful citizens, exercising a basic and patriotic duty.

Democrats is the economy.
The "low information" voter is also the one that's been hit hardest by the fallout from the upward redistribution of wealth which started in the Reagan era and continued through the Clinton (that's part of what NAFTA was all about) and Bush Administrations.
The people willing to vote against their own bank accounts over racist issues are not swing voters, they're Republicans, we can't get their votes. Even Hillary can't get their votes in the GE if nominated, people vote for real Republicans against Republican-lites.
It's the people who have to choose between paying rent and electricity and who are very personally worried about sticker shock in the supermarket (I've heard from multiple sources about $4 loaves of bread by election day) we can break off and win with.

If you can't answer 3 questions provided by each candidate about his key positions then you can't vote?

credit Bush and proclaim that Obama is a Muslim. It's obvious that these knee-jerk reactions have little to nothing to do with a person's character or actions, it's the wrapper that counts.
