I spent an hour this morning weeding a raspberry patch which went untended last year and boy, does it show. Thistles higher than my knee, dead canes galore and LOTS of new growth.

For the last few days I've been tinkering with my bagel recipe. The dough is pretty good and the taste is yummy (I proof my yeast with beer), but I'm darned if I can shape my snakes into donuts. I still haven't mastered the art of making dough stick to itself so I get bagels with tails. Help?

A friend stopped by just as the latest batch was coming out of the oven so of course we had to send some home with him -- a good excuse to make more!

  the bread dough needs to be moist enough to stick to and meld with other bread.
  
  you can always make pretzel-shaped bagels and have tails on purpose.
  
  i am wondering if pro-bagelers form the circle by using a cookie cutter of some kind? or they clip the ends off after forming the circle?

  in fact my mother's day dinner dessert is in the oven now. Marie Callenders' raspberry and blackberry pie.
  
  Yummmmy. Mr. J and Poppy (in-laws are here yea!) fixed us a wonderful turkey dinner for mother's day. And the sun came out so what a great evening I'm having!

  About 18-24 drops in a shotglass of olive oil. Will work wonders on your scratches and ouchie spots.
