We do not disagree on the importance of the Pentagon disinformation story.

However, this story is about one of the reasons why the permanent government in Washington is the way it is, and why some Democrats and American politics in general is headed steadily rightward.

As you wil see if you read the book, The Family served as important backchannel conduits between American policy makers and genocidal dictators from Somalia to Indonesia -- not to mention being their apologists and front men. If you don't like the war in Iraq enough to be concerned about the bogus Pentagon analysts, you need to understand something about the role of The Family in domestic and foreign policy formation. If you read the book, you will get a clear window on that, as I have.

"permanent government" - I read sharlett's article in Harpers long ago.

While we trudge around the grassroots, engaged in that silly old fashioned enterprise of democracy and voting, there are those who see a quicker path to power by hanging around Washington and leeching onto representatives and senators after they are elected.

The Clinton connection is just an entree to the larger story here.

Were we to individually try to tackle each and every problem we see confronting the general progressive movement, we should spread ourselves so thin as to accomplish nothing.  Rather we much choose our battles and work in a focused manner on those fronts where we can be most effective.

Obviously for duha this does not include the very real danger of religious fundamentalism and Christian Nationalism or neopentecostal dominionism, and he(?) instead believes

Trying to get more coverage on how the Pentagon has a de facto domestic war propaganda apparatus with the MSM is something more important in my opinion.

More power to him, but I find his rather glib dismissal of Sharlet's in-depth research and reporting on The Family to be unsettling.  I only hope his sentiments on the Pentagon are more than mere words and that he really is trying to do something about it.

If we're not willing to boldly refute the lies, the lies will stand as truth. (-6.75, -6.72)
