We shouldn't work to ensure it happens in anyone else's lifetime either. Is that what you're saying? Or are you just saying you won't work for it.
We all pick our battles. We all focus on different causes. If you don't think this is a battle that you can fight, so be it. Pick your cause and fight for that. I won't think any less of you. But discouraging others from fighting for progress is just, well, wrong.

We didn't fight on the side of the South in the Civil War? And there are many industrial jobs and little agricultural base, so historically not many slaves. And why assume all Appalachians are Scots-Irish? Many are Italian, Hungarian, Czech, German, African American etc.

purely because of its geography - the majority of the land area falls south of the Mason-Dixon line. The northern panhandle area borders with PA and OH, but the rest of the state borders with Virginia and Kentucky.
But don't you dare call a West Virginian a southerner - they are mountain men and women!
