If he is a careful Democrat how did he manage to preside over the most progressive session in decades? If he's a safe Democrat why even push so many progressive bills through the House and fight as hard as he did for domestic partnerships legislation?
Both Novick and Merkley are strong progressive candidates. We're lucky here in Oregon that we don't have to battle with a moderate Democrat. No matter who wins the nomination, we get a progressive candidate. For me though, Merkley is exactly the kind of skilled progressive legislator that we need fighting in DC for us. He'll get things done like he has in Oregon.

My decision to go Novick is based on a degree of Nth. It took a long time for me to make up my mind. I guess I just want more of a firebrand. And I agree on how lucky we are, win or lose, we win!

if Merkley gets the nod and beats Smith he'll prove to you that he will not only light a fire under the progressive wing of the party, he'll work to unite our party around progressive bills. That's so important right now. If we take back the WH and pick up a 60 vote majority, our party has a real chance to move to the left. While I respect Novick's fire as well, I think Merkley is the candidate who is capable of uniting the Dems and moving them to the left on environmental issues etc.

that Novick might be a little more...devisive?

Some will make that argument, but I really prefer to think about just what Sarah says -- how Jeff will really take the fight to Gordo and wrestle him out of DC.

He's outspoken for sure, and that's good for the progressive cause.
If attack ads aren't devisive, I don't know what is.
