Just proves that without his teleprompter, his head is entirely empty.
Well, apart from the "fuckityfuckityfuckity" that apparently rattles around in there.

Images and embeds are a pain in the ass on dialup. I'm on highspeed in the city, but dialup at our cabin, and it's painful...

I remember the painful days of dialup. Some folks around here post image after image after image in diaries. I like the pics, but I do occasionally mourn the participation of the people who just can't play because the threads are too "heavy".

and as long as too many embeds aren't posted here, I should be able to read this thread. More than 3 or 4 and the page will freeze up.

in our rural area. We can't keep a dialup connection due to old Verizon infrastructure that they refuse to upgrade. And neither Verizon nor TimeWarner want to offer highspeed or cable on our road.
Most days, the satellite is only slightly better than dialup. And it costs us $60 per month after a hefty startup cost of a couple hundred bucks.
So, I'm another kossack that appreciates fewer actual videos, and just doing links. We get hit with a 'fair access policy' that slows our connection down to a trickle if we go over a certain download level within a 24 hour period. We also have to be careful if someone includes a 'self-starting' video. That will mess us up without even knowing it's happening, if we leave the page open and go to eat dinner or something.
The worst part, it takes a full 24 hours for the FAP 'flu' to right itself. That's right, once we hit our max of download, we go to a trickle for a FULL TWENTY-FOUR HOURS before we get our normal speed back. A page can take several minutes to load.
I am sooo excited for Obama to get into the White House and get his broadband project going. He wants to link the whole US, Yippie!!!!!
Come to think of it, this is a plank in his platform that he might want to stress more. Seems an awful lot of people in rural areas would like to be connected, but aren't due to terrible dialup or costly satellite. And you don't hear much from them for the very reason that THEY AREN'T CONNECTED.

especially tying into the campaign - and the fact that it would be great to get more people connected.

and I cannot get cable modem or TV, used to have I-DSL for a while (at 140k), before that we had DirecWay (now HughesNet) which was great for downloads but sucked bigtime for uploads and was worthless for VPN connections due to bizarre latency issues.
Finally, here's the good stuff, one of the locals saw an opportunity and used the hilly terrain to setup a series of repeating line-of-sight wireless modems and T-1/T-3 connected nodes. So, now in our little community, that used to be dial-up and shitty sattelite, we have a decent DSL access, via wireless/wired network serving a thousand or so customers. If you are interested in learning more or possibly talking to them just email me and I'll send you the contact info for them.
Not everyone has to be connected to ATT/Yahoo or the other big names.

"Pain at the pump," they were calling it. Now, with no increase in wages for many, and everything else going up, it's worse than that. Thanks, Bushie, you've done a heckuva job!
