it's just about as fast as by car. But my mouth and nose get pretty dry.

  At least for me it does. It takes five minutes for me to walk to the nearest MUNI station, five or seven to walk from MUNI to my office and five minutes or so on the train (and MUNI can get backed up heading downtown in the morning). It takes me 10-12 minutes door to door by bike, depending on how I hit the lights.
  
  If your mouth is getting dry, you probably need to drink more water.
