...was certainly odious, which is what we have come to expect from him. But you can't put "Nazi appeasers" in quotation marks because he didn't say those exact words, even if that was the intent:
"Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along," said Bush, in what White House aides privately acknowledged was a reference to calls by Obama and other Democrats for the U.S. president to sit down for talks with leaders like Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. "We have heard this foolish delusion before," Bush said in remarks to the Israeli Knesset. "As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American Senator declared: 'Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided.' We have an obligation to call this what it is -- the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history."

I was looking for the reference in Bush's speech, and didn't see it.
Yeah, he's the same demagogue asshole he's always been. But to say that he called them Nazi appeasers, point blank, is misleading. Especially since he did his usual cowardly "some" or some people" schtick when actually speaking in front of the Knesset.
That said, I'm all for censure, for this and a host of other things. But I've been for impeachment for the longest time too, so... there you go.
JOHN McCAIN = George W. Bush's 3rd term.

Is Bush grandstanding on the occasion of an ally s anniversary in very poor taste?
Yes.
Are the smarmy allusions to appeasement (that overlook how Republicans in the run-up to World War II were the appeasers) very offensieve.
Oh, yeah.
But there are proper and productive ways to express Americans' disapproval at a 27% president going overseas to endanger alliance relations if his party does not get to keep the White House.
Hopefully, on account Bush had to mention Truman, the people and government of Israel will remember which party in power recognized the Jewish state.
That Israel will remember which party dragged its heels stepping into the fight against fascism and genocide...and which argued for restraint and warmongering against the perpetrators of the Shoah.
My guess, and it's just a guess, is that the people of Israel, and all of Zion worldwide, know their history well enough to see Bush for what he is - no friend of Israel at all.
There is still hope and love in the world.

Try as you might, you cannot spell HOPE with the letters GOP.

"Lord, if I could only have talked to Hitler, all this might have been avoided." was uttered by Wm Borah REPUBLICAN Senator from Idaho. He was an anti-conservative progressive, not surprising Bush missed his party affiliation.
