or are moving inexorably towards one because of our heightened societal and economic contradictions, i have to say that obama is probably the last best chance the status quo has to reform itself.
he may well end up getting pushed into revolutionary acts, or (more likely IMO)_ may try vainly to stand against the tide of where the electorate is moving, but he is not a revolutionary.
he has heard those critiques, and taken them seriously, and rejected them. in some cases, i think he learned the wrong lessons from the battles of the 60s, but for what it;s worth, he's firmly ensconced in the ideological mold of "nonideological" pragmatist and peacemaker.

If this bed for peaceful reform fails, we may well be approaching a point where the country is ready for revolutionary change (peaceful or otherwise). But Obama is not one to lead, or even willingly participate, in any such thing. He's a consensus-builder and a moderate.

His whole meme is one built around picking each other up by finding common ground and common interests, while listening to each other and making sure the government is transparent. He has not run a campaign on "I'm going to get in there, tear the place apart, and build it again."
