They are, at root, politicians.
But that makes me no less happy, because they're at the least paying attention to the sentiments of the people they're supposed to fucking be representing (instead of just fucking the people they're supposed to be representing).

About this time in 2006, there were all kinds of things about 'impeachment' hearings, etc.
And 'Puff the Magic Dragon' blew all that DC Hot Air right to sea as soon as the election was over.
It's nice to hear music on the alarm clock vs the usual irritating BBBBUUUUUZZZZZZZ, but I'll believe it when the New GI Bill is passed before the election and not before.

act like they haven't tried other stuff before...they have, nothing has worked until now...and why? because we're close to election time and they can get these rethugs on record now. remember, while we have the majority in congress, it's not big enough to pull off some of these things and I'd say considering that it took 8 years to get us where we are, it's not going to change over night. this is a very good start and hopefully a sign of things to come!
we should send our reps some love, maybe donate to their campaigns or the DNC.

After the obligatory thank-yous, she introduced the bill as the "last supplemental" for Iraq that they would ever pass. I couldn't decide for a minute whether she was saying that it would no longer be off-budget, or that there would be no war. Then I shook off the influence of my frozen coke and realized that fiscal responsibility was the best we could get.

Some seem to believe we should negotiate with terrorists and radicals, as if some ingenious argument will persuade them they have been wrong all along. We have heard this foolish delusion before. As Nazi tanks crossed into Poland in 1939, an American senator declared: "Lord, if only I could have talked to Hitler, all of this might have been avoided." We have an obligation to call this what it is – the false comfort of appeasement, which has been repeatedly discredited by history.
The constitutional crisis was over two years ago. It's been full-scale erosion since then.

Is that so may people are there out editing it.
I have to say that Wikipedia restores some of my faith in humanity, that it is reliably accurate and amazingly up-to-date (at least on things which I think I'm expert enough to evaluate, certain science topics). Even more amazing about Wikipedia is that communal editing results in things that are remarkably void of overt bias.
For instance, my her work my spouse wanted to to find an accurate explanation of the Crusades that manages to not insult Christians or Muslims. The first sentence of Wikipedia had it better than I ever could have come up with.

in how Democrats voted, but because of a change in how Republicans voted. Eventually, funding will pass -- Democrats don't want to hand McCain a lifeline, and few people want to see Bush mangle a withdrawal. I'd love to see drawdowns, Murtha-style improvements to troop treatments, and the other amendments that Dems have on this bill, but I don't think Dems are yet on board with absolute defunding.
Still, this has to be a huge embarrassment to the GOP.

I might well vote for it too. I don't trust Bush to be the one to wind down the occupation. The fact is that our Iraq policy is being held hostage by a combination madman/idiot who would be perfectly happy to see even more carnage there -- including more aimed at our troops -- so long as he could blame it on Democrats.
They should load this bill up with provisions that will make Bush's liver curl up when he signs it, but I don't want the GOP to be able to engineer an increasing travesty in Iraq -- and hell yes it could get worse -- and then blame it on Democrats as a means of trying to support McCain. I'm happy to see lots of Democrats follow their conscience and vote no, but anyone from a swing district gets no criticism from me for this. President Obama will figure out how to draw down the war.
by Seneca Doane on Thu May 15, 2008 at 03:14:44 PM PDT
Dems have got the increased funding for education, and can paint the repubs as opposing it (which they do), since they'll all support doofus' veto. The repubs can scream "tax increase", and fan their dumdum base (who, of course wouldn't be affected by the surtax on $500k/indiv).
Which is all fine and dandy sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Unless, of course, it's at all part of a concerted counteroffensive with: this, which supports this, which is bolstered by this.
Makes a nice set, and I'd love to believe this is the trotting out of some of the megatons of "dry powder" that's been accumulating under the Capitol these seven + long, dark years.
