...Before election day, John Conyers had drawn up impeachment papers, got a lot of Reps to sign on to it (including my Dem Rep, which is why I voted for him again after some really dumbass votes on my Rep's part) and Conyers even wrote a book about impeachment.  I figured with a Dem majority in Congress we could finally get rid of Georgie and Dickie.  Post-election:  Nothing happened!  And Pelosi was very vocal about taking "impeachment off the table."  When I wrote my Dem Rep about impeachment after the election, he'd suddenly changed his tune and talked about a "Republican backlash" in his formulaic email reply.  I wrote back that it wasn't "Republican backlash" that Congress had to worry about, but Voter Backlash.

Then there were the endless rounds of emails in the last couple of years that we were asked to sign to support impeachment.  The latest one was Wexler's presented in a couple of diaries on Kos, and I had to ask why another petition if nothing was going to be done.  (There was the convenient 'contributions' link on the petition part of his web site.)

I figure Conyers' current "threat" is just a bunch of hot air.  He won't do anything this time, just like he didn't do anything about his impeachment papers against Georgie that were never even brought to the floor of the House, nor the impeachment papers against Dickie that Kucinich presented on the floor of the House that are gathering dust in the Judiciary Committee.  Wexler made a pretty speech, had a ream of paper he said contained the names of people who had signed a petition to impeach Dickie, but nothing ever came of that; his speech carried no threats or caveats, just the information that people still wanted impeachment to go forward.

I figure AFTER inherent contempt charges are filed against Rove, AFTER impeachment papers are finally served against Cheney (we must rid ourselves of him first and replace him with someone else) and then AFTER impeachment papers are filed against Bush, and AFTER those processes are done and convictions are rendered (we ALL know they're guilty, and that's only for things we know about; what's been done in secret we still don't have a clue about), THEN maybe I'll consider donating to someone's campaign.  I never got paid for anything I ever did at any job I ever held until AFTER I did my job, and so far Congress Critters have NOT done their jobs, nor abided by their oath of office to defend the Constitution "against all enemies foreign AND domestic...."

Meanwhile, I have no faith whatsoever that threats will accomplish anything other than some people will donate to their coffers in hopes something will be done, and then wake up sadder but wiser after election day when they discover that Congress Critters are still too damned afraid of Dickie and Georgie to abide by their oaths of office and do something about either one of them or their criminal cohorts.  Obama and Edwards (from before he dropped out of the race) are already on record as not supporting impeachment, so I have no faith that they will do anything other than want to sing Kumbaya and "put the past behind us and move forward."

I still want justice....  And no one will be happier than me if I'm wrong in my assessment of the current situation.
