Steelworkers. Good people.
Their Blue/Green Alliance with the Sierra Club is a great example of unity for real change:
Sierra Club, United Steelworkers: ‘Blue-Green Alliance’
"The Blue/Green Alliance is one of the most important initiatives undertaken by the environmental movement in decades," said Carl Pope, Executive Director of the Sierra Club. "We have reached a point in the development of a global economy where we can either use our planet’s resources for long-term sustainability or to create an ever more dangerous polarization of wealth and poverty. Our new alliance allows us to address the great challenge of the global economy in the 21st century--how to provide good jobs, a clean environment and a safer world." "Good jobs and a clean environment are important to American workers--we cannot have one without the other, said Leo W. Gerard, International President of USW. "In fact, secure 21st century jobs are those that will help solve the problem of global warming with energy efficiency and renewable energy."

The campaign will focus on a commitment to clean, renewable energy to make the U.S. more energy-independent, to help end our dependence on fossil fuels and to create hundreds of thousands of green jobs nationwide

I've long anticipated this endorsement, on Tues. as I watched HRC's speech my first thought was John will come on board soon.
She got her win, she earned the right to enjoy it, but there was no signal that this endless fight would end. Her only path is through personal destruction and that has to end. John feels the same, IMO.
Hillary is a powerful force in the Democratic Party and she and her supporters have a place in this historic year. The healing has to start sooner rather than later.

This is the first diary I have read since the day after Edwards left the race. My extreme disappointment at the Dem party and the owner of this blog in particular for the way they arrogantly and stupidly worked against the best REAL hope this country has seen in my lifetime, forced me to remove myself from the insanity. My feelings about it have not changed. Nor have my feelings about JRE changed - which is why my vote for Obama will now be given with a sliver of optimism rather than as nothing more than a vote against the nightmare known as the GOP.
Hello to all my fellow Edwards supporters! Long time no see. ;-)

reminds me that while I was so dead set against Edwards endorsing either candidate, I have no idea why on earth, I thought by doing so he would dilute his own message. The great thing about his speech (to me) is that he was saying "We may not get everything we want done, but united we will get a LOT done, far more than we could accomplish by not uniting the party. I can work with this guy, and I'm still Edwards and have no intention of stopping work the work you and I set out to do--neither should you." I should have known he'd make the prospect easy.

Tom and I have talked about this: look, things do get heated here, and unfortunately some times it crosses over from stuff about the candidates to things about each other, and that's unacceptable. We all try to be vigorous advocates here, and if I ever went too far, I apologize.

Edwards endorsement speech was fabulous. He propped up both Clinton and Obama and made his case for Obama's candidacy. I was so impressed last night with John, I'm hoping that he'll stump with Obama through November. He'd be a great surrogate to send out to blue collar and rural areas.

One of his best.
by NCDem Amy on Thu May 15, 2008 at 08:23:07 AM PDT
the speech. John Edwards spoke for Democrats who were not directly advocating for one candidate or the other. He inserted into public discourse what is said in private: The race is over, both Senators are worthy of support and now is the time to start healing the rifts developed over the course of a fierce campaign. By saying this to a rally for Obama in Michigan which is past the primary process now, it emphasized the nonpartisan nature of the message. This was not a campaign speech, there is no primary in Michigan; this was an act of closure and it is up to Edwards supporters to help unite the Party.
For every difficult question, there is an answer that is simple, easily understood and wrong.--H.L. Mencken

I agree, it was also a message to voters, to unite (including those Edwards supporters who moved to Hillary).
Hillary does have millions of supporters but as John said, this goes beyond any one candidate. It is about the people and the causes.
