Sure, he wanted the Senate seat. And if his putsch with Ray Lesniak, Camden kingpin Norcross, and Bergen Boss Ferriero had come together the way they planned, he'd have had a shot. But right now, Andrews wants as much exposure in the New York media market part of the sate as possible, so he can be next in line for Governor. New Jersey will also elect a Lieutenant Governor for the first time (at leas the first time under the 1947 constitution) next year, so if Corzine is still around (as opposed to in the Obama Administration) and is too popular to primary (not a given) then Andrews would be logical choice for that, unless he has too many people utterly furious with him.
There are parallels between Clinton's position nationally and Andrews' in New Jersey. In ideology, in ambition, and in a possible deficit of goodwill.
