OK, I decided to do a quick search. An Illinois State Senator now makes $66,000 salary. A US Senator makes a base pay of $165,200. So just by becoming a US Senator, Obama tripled his salary. The rest I said in that prior comment then stands - probably mostly book sales and speeches.

The reporter pretended that there's a big story by talking in terms of multiples instead of just describing the actual growth in his wealth, or the nature of his wealth now. And there's no side by side comparison of the three candidates' income growth since 2005.
I asked the reporter to explain these and the other peculiar things I observed about this story. He hasn't responded so far.
