    However, it is not a completely racist one, if that makes you feel any better. Remember Kerry was sucessfully portrayed as being questionable in the patriotism department and he is a goddam decorate war veteran. Basically, ANY democratic candidate will have to prove patriotism and love of God because the Republicans have successfully branded liberals as godless America-haters. they have also branded us as tax and spend politicians even though they are the ones who bury us in debt.

    The good news is that the majority of the American people are finally seeing through the Republicans BS.

      I am so infuriated that the wingers have tied together being "Christian" with being patriotic. Wtf does one have to do with another?! Ugh. Even worse, why do people fall for it? I am constantly amazed at the willful ignorance of so much of our population. I guess that must be the elitist appeaser in me. Heh.

      Kerry being a pro-choice Catholic wasn't nearly as a big an issue as Rev. Wright was for Obama. It was an issue for Kerry, but it wasn't covered for several weeks like Wright was for Obama.

      Teresa Kerry was outspoken as well, but she didn't get as much publicity as Michelle Obama.

      Yes, a good part of it is because Obama is a Democrat, and Democrats have to prove they don't hate America and aren't godless Commie preverts. But, I think the bar is higher because Obama is black.

        The pastor thing is just crazy and clearly racist. No white politician has had to deal with that (I suppose Kennedy to some extent with the Pope).

        However, remember how bad the smears were on Kerry and Gore and I think you will realize that it's hard to distinguish how much of the despicable tactics of the Republicans are based on race and how much based just on them being despicable assholes themselves. The patriotism and elitist smears I think are not really race related and would happen if Obama were white.

        However, there will be more race-baiting by the right, I'm absolutely sure of that.
