Comments: Expand Shrink Hide (Always) | Indented Flat (Always)
have had many generations of a raccoon family hanging out under my deck----they don't really bother me---I just see some muddy footprints from time to time and think it's cute on summer nights to see all the little kids following behind their parents as they learn the ropes on the nightly rounds. Also have genius ground squirrels and lots of grey squirrels and every variety of bird----and see deer romp thru our back yard from time to time--and a fox or two once in a while----they all seem to be able to live side by side----there's a lot we can learn from them.

that the raccoons wanted to come inside the house. A few days with a scat mat outside the cat door drove them off.

it can contain parasites that can travel to other hosts including humans. CDC has a web page about it. Raccoons have a communal "toilet" and we were unlucky enough to have one last year on the patio!! so this was very disturbing to us.
We would scoop out the scat - with gloves on-and sprinkle pepper around to discourage them. We moved the compost into a covered container, and cleaned up any spilled birdseed at the feeder. Finally we had a backyard renovation along with a new patio, (not because of the raccoons!) and that seems to have stopped them.
SO- beware the raccoon poop!!
