I've considered trapping my groundhog and moving him to a safe place to keep everyone happy, but it seems so peaceful and content under my shed.

If I were going to trap, I would put some squirrel food in the trap during the day and hope that I got the groundhog and not a squirrel.  I would not try to trap at night because groundhogs aren't nocturnal and racoons and skunks are.
