...waiting to catch a flight to Palau, where we are building a family home (My wife is Palauan and we met on Guam in '99). I've been here three weeks working as a volunteer with the Obama team. I live in Seattle with my (wonderful) wife who let me leave for one month and my two young children. We ran a good campaign here, and the folks from Chicago were great! We had another volunteer who hails from Guam fly in from China, and we had a well-connected local guy run the campaign aided by a very professional young woman from Hawaii who crunched numbers, ran strategy with the gentleman from Guam and targeted the youth vote. We had many, many volunteers of all colors, ages and religions banging away at the phones for weeks, canvassers walking the streets from Yigo to Inarajan, and many of I met with old friends from my ten wonderful years on this beautiful island and spoke to at least 1000 people personally about how much I respect Sen. Obama and why he is the guy who will be able to affect real change in America and on Guam. Last night I even spent time with the Chamoru activists, the Chamoru Nation, to discuss the military buildup and their noble fight to preserve their race, language and land. The past two days, I was interviewed on two of the top radio stations about why I flew back home to help Sen. Obama...and help Guam be heard in this once-in-a-lifetime election for the people of this island. I came on after Sen. Obama yesterday and a former Guam senator and close friend of mine and I attempted to put a local spin on Sen. Obama's remarks and pound his message home. And in one of the two local papers yesterday, a letter to the editor appeared from Sen. Obama--and mine was right below his, as I attempted to get our message across that the Clintons had visited Guam, taken quite a bit of money from the island, and we're never heard from again. Some of the biggest names in the Guam Democratic Party threw their weight behind Sen. Obama, including former Gov. Carl T.C. Gutierrez, who had moved his support from Sen. Clinton to Sen. Obama in recent months and who called him the 'last great hope for the island' to have a seat at the table on CNN this morning.
Guam is an incredible place, with talented people and some of the most patriotic people in our nation's history. They have sacrificed more blood per capita in the past four or five wars than any other state or territory, and the United States and Japanese governments are spending close to $10 billion to move the US Marines from Okinawa to Guam in the coming five years. Many on the island just want to vote for the president in the general, and they want respect and an equal voice in our nation.
My best friends in the world are on Guam. I helped take their national baseball team to the brink of the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000. I met my wife on the island, conceived two children. I went out last night with many of my old friends, and I'll never forget this incredible trip back to Guam to support Barack Obama.
Guam is good, and I feel certain we have delivered a solid win for Sen. Obama. The polls have been closed for 40 minutes, and I'll be calling friends soon. At about 7 am PST we should have the results. Give it up for GUAM!!!

I'll report from Palau later tonight...another former U.S. possession that is also very special.
You'd all be so proud to see our Chamorro/Chamoru and Guamanian friends standing out in the pounding soon all day talking up our fellow islander, Sen. Barack Obama. I wish you were ALL there!!!
