I have been predicting for months that a big win in North Carolina would end it, but for the last few weeks the media had me worried.
The commercial threw everything and the kitchen sink at Obama and he stood tall.
Obama has the composure of a champion.
He will be the next president of the United States.

I think JedReport was right. Letting it play out so Oregon puts him over the top in pledged delegates is the right way to do it. That's two weeks from today. Superdelegate pace will pick up then. I don't think they want to see a fight on May 31.

No, it won't be a landslide. Barack has gone through the Clinton Machine to get the nom, which was a pretty good dress rehearsal for the Rethuglican Machine. It, too, won't go down easily.
But we have our man. He personifies grace under pressure. He has proven himself beyond the shadow of a doubt. And he will MASSACRE the Republicans in fundraising. He is a fine executive (just LOOK at that stellar primary campaign organization!).
The Republicans are now officially shitting themselves. Their worst-case scenario has now happened. And Rush's "Chaos?" In tatters.
I am so proud. The man is almost exactly my age. He represents me in a profound way, far more than anyone ever has politically. I have absolute confidence in Barack.
It is time to begin uniting our people for the fall campaign.
by The Lighthouse Keeper on Tue May 06, 2008 at 10:04:33 PM PDT
I started out an Edwards supporter and after Edwards bowed out, I remained undecided for a long period of time, because having either candidate win the nomination and the general would be a win-win and an historic change. Through this long and hard fight, I came to the conclusion that Obama aligned more with the qualities and style I want to see in the next President.
Having said that, though, I also am happy to admit that I remain consistently impressed with Senator Clinton, even as I actively disliked some of the choices her campaign made--she is one hell of a fighter and living proof that anyone who brings up the nonsensical "women are weak" argument within my earshot gets branded as a complete idiot because damn. That woman can fight.
These two campaigns have been run very differently, and the Democratic party and the American people have had a rare opportunity to witness both a stimulating race and a political experiment happening before our eyes, and to choose their politics as well as their candidate.
And I am still angry at the thought that our common opponent made such a concerted attempt to game the system by using her candidacy. Which is why our real ire needs to be turned towards defeating the GOP, its failed policies, and its failed political tactics, and turning the momentum towards restoring the Constitution and balance of power in this country.

I don't think Hillary can lay claim to WV or KY.
My regret is that the exchange between the camps on TV and at dkos got so nasty. When Republicans on this site get a warmer welcome than a Clinton supporter, things are out of hand.
The big loser in all of this is the DLC. Now if Obama can make the American people the big winner for a change, we really will have a new kind of politics and lord knows we need it. Congrats to all of you who worked hard for your candidate.
Republicans don't have 60 votes, and it doesn't seem to bother them one bit.

supporters. It's not fair, but that's the perception. Even if we can all see the writing on the wall, even if johnnygunn is gracious and realistic enough to admit it, you're completely right, nehark.
We should give Clinton supporters a little time to accept the new situation, because saying "I told you so", or even expressing sympathy, could come off as condescending. It will take commitment and compassion to heal the rift, so that united democrats can get a landslide in November.

out from Obama supporters. It is my notion that most (if not all) of the hate is just the amount negative anamosity is just her negative numbers rearing their ugly head. I don't hate Clinton, I support Barack. But Obama has his own haters which Clinton is blamed for as well. True supporters must resist the hate spewed by commenters who just hate either candidate. We cannot get mad at haters, we need to ignore them.

Nation. It's pretty much over but the damager is done and not by Senator Obama or Senator Clinton. I am more disgusted in the Media than either party, however, I remain open minded and focus on the true goal - a win in 2008. But - there are many that are unlike me and it is those who I worry.
For weeks I've read the nasty, nasty things that have come out from each party and I’m sorry to say, but there was much more directed at Hillary, by Barack supporters. Agree with me or not, if you've read this blog, and many others, you know what I mean. At worst, they called him many things, but nothing near as harsh as the things said about her - all this for nothing.
Well, November will tell if this race was worth it and all the trash tossed. I forgive both candidates for their actions, because lets face it, this is politics. However, the nasty actions by the supporters? I will say this; I have decided to go Independent because the Democratic Party is far away from a positive move forward and this has nothing to do with Obama or Clinton. Enough said.

to get over a loss. I supported someone other than Kerry, and it was hard to swallow when he got the wins and it was clear he was the nominee. But then we started working, canvassing, and finding new Dems in an area of Fairfax County, VA that had not voted for a Dem Pres since....can't remember if at all. And we started turning that part of Fairfax County blue. We met in Meet-ups and found more supporters. And were able to tell Dems who were isolated in their neighborhoods that there were many more Dems; they just didn't know it because no one was talking. It wasn't until we canvassed and got walking sheets updated that we got things cooking.
The same thing has been done by both Clinton and Obama supporters in nearly every state that has had a primary or caucus. WOW!

I was an Edwards supporter and it stings when your candidate has to drop out. I was pissed and the Obama crowd here was absolutely obnoxious. I ended up supporting Obama's candidacy after researching his positions and background more thoroughly, and his speech about race following the ridiculous Rev. Wright garbage sold me. I donate to his campaign regularly. He is a great candidate and we will be lucky to have him in the White House.
Leave the Clinton supporters be. They will come around on their own. Senator Obama has a way of taking the sting out of losing this important fight. He is truly interested in bringing all of us together. If he can win over Republicans who are disgusted with the direction of their party, he can win over Clinton supporters.
The best part of this whole thing is the DLC got a kick in the nutsack. That just makes my day.

gets tromped in the last game of the season because they choose to bench their star players since their seed is already determined, nobody really holds it against them (except maybe the fans that show up for the game expecting to see their idols play).
If Hillary concedes, Obama can make a gracious statement, blah, blah, blah and then suspend vigorous campaigning and a drain of resources he'll need against McCain. If he loses big in these states, it's easily rationalized then and nationally nobody will really care.

Obama has campaigned with class, and he is going to win because of it.
ALL Obama backers MUST now the same class if you want Obama to win in November.
We MUST win over the "low information voters" who are clinton's base, and they are unable to comprehend or understand policy.
In fact, pretty much ALL they can comprehend is that Obama backers are educated elitists who loathe them because CNN and Fox told them so.
Obama backers need to reach out to them, and assure them that Obama has their back.
So be as classy and inclusive as Obama is! We have to break the MSM barrier and convince "low information voters" that Obama is willing to help them.
And we can't do that by saying "In your ignorant, lazy face moron!"
That must NEVER happen.
by last patriot left on Tue May 06, 2008 at 10:36:58 PM PDT
Can we change "low information voters" to ...
... "low information" voters?
That is, let's make it clear that our complaint is not with the voters themselves - most of whom work long days trying to keep their families housed and fed - but with the poor quality of information the mainstream media generally present?
Many of us here at DKos are blessed to have either jobs that require us to research (as mine does) or to still be in academia (teaching or students) and thus in the habit of independent research.
That is a blessing, friends. Most people don't have time to research beyond what they see or read in the headline-based, "perpetual campaign" themed, news-ish entertainment served up by the MSM. Even in the internet age, detailed factual research is still very time-intensive.
So can we switch the quote marks, please? From "low information voters" to "low information" voters?
Thanks.
by NCrissieB on Wed May 07, 2008 at 03:33:36 AM PDT
Perhaps rather than "low information" voters, perhaps "headline" voters, or "time-crunched" voters?
Or some phrase that doesn't imply they're stupid (they're not), but simply recognizes that they don't have time to research beyond what they get over dinner while watching the news, or scanning the headlines as they head off to work?

...wait until the "voting rights" issue is brought up. Please let me explain. Don't be surprised if Hillary raises holy hell concerning Michigan and Florida. You have a tremendous amount of minorities in those states and Hillary could say something like, "Howard Dean and the DNC are suppressing these votes, etc."
If anyone thinks Hillary is going down quietly, you don't know the Clinton(s). Hillary has put up with Bill's and everyone else's shit for the last thirty years for this campaign. She will only go down quietly if her brains are blown out...literally!!!
We all have to remember the Clintons do not care if they flame the party to spite their faces. To the Clintons, being second banana does not cut it. They will cut everyone to pieces before they let that happen....

If you mean to say I'm being opportunistic in saying what I say now, that's not right. I have not relished HRC bashing at any point. A lot of BO supporters have not enjoyed excesses of scorn heaped on her and her campaign. I've criticized her a lot, and I've been rude often enough to HRC supporters here (and I have no qualms continuing to do that, where it is treating a rude HRC supporter in kind). But I and a lot of BO supporters, I believe, have never liked the instances of cackling spite toward HRC.
You may be one of the HRC supporters who likes to generalize about BO supporters from a few dozens or hundreds of the more vocal and passionate among us. That's wrong.
Your evident bitterness at this moment is not pretty either, by the way.
