Out of Ronald Reagan's book. He made it ok for "nice people" to be racist again. She's trying to make it ok for Democrats to be racist again. That is unforgivable. We will however get over this. I do believe the country as a whole has moved on.

I don't know what she will say in defense of this comment.
When you play these stupid games with demographics you're bound to have something come out of your mouth that sounds like David Duke. The whole game of I-have-the-over-65-under-72-transgendered-inuit-plumbers-with-a-graduate-degree-vote is just about as dumb an argument as they come. But when you make your case based on having the Appalachian white vote and your African-American opponent not being able to win it, that is playing with fire.

pander to voters who base their vote on racist attitudes and other divisive prejudices/stereotypes. The fact that Hillary is exploiting these fears and prejudices (like Republicans typically do) is quite telling -- of her (her character, her hunger for power, her selfishness).
We need to build up the number of voters who don't base their vote on prejudices and side issues -- so that effectively we don't need these voters to win an election. This already appears to be happening, starting with this election. At the same time, we shouldn't give up on their ability to change and evolve into voting their own self interests and those of the majority of people in this country -- by looking beyond their narrowly defined emotional and reactive tendencies. It degrades our democracy to pander to people's fears and prejudices in electing a leader for all the citizens of the U.S. It needs to stop.

I imagine that is what most of the Dem SD's think of her as well now, since Obama is basically a nice guy.
What is Stephanie Tubbs Jones and Sheila Jackson Lee now thinking (they should be asked.)
Hillary is not trying to win over the SD's anymore, she is trying to fight them.

What happens when Operation Chaos swings toward Obama?
In the CNN exit poll, 13% of the people who voted for Clinton would not vote for her against McCain -- call these OC (Operation Chaos). 5% of Obama voters would not vote for him against McCain -- call there HH (Hill-hate). This 13% is overwhelmingly white (Republican, with Limbaugh fans). That takes her white support down to 52%. 5% of Obama voters would not vote for him against McCain. Again, Republican support is mostly white so Obama goes from 40 to 38.
52 - 38 --> 58 - 42. It's still an advantage for Clinton, but one that is less overwhelming.

by profh on Thu May 08, 2008 at 05:15:03 AM PDT
Why is it that people keep saying that Obama needs to pay off Hillary's debts? I don't understand this. I Heard it on the news several times this morning. Is this normal? I feel if she ran them up she should pay for them. Some of them were very extreme. Two separate planes, flowers, etc. Why can't she use her own income. Or is this a way for Obama to help her bow out gracefully? Reported last night she is over $23M in debt. She's charging her campaign 35% interest on the $11.4 million she loaned her campaign.
Another question I have is why should Obama have Hillary for VP. I think he needs someone with alot of Military experience to offset McCains.
Can someone explain this to me, I seriously don't understand.
by Darqhorse on Thu May 08, 2008 at 05:40:09 AM PDT

Read the whole Huffington Post story that I linked to and tell me where it ever says that the Clinton campaign has asked the Obama campaign to pay-off the Clinton debts. Here is the link again to the origial story that everyone is siting.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/...
Read it word for word and tell me where it says that Clinton has asked anyone to pay-off her debts. Or if you can find the source of the information on the high-interest rate loan. I would really like to know.
by katieforeman on Thu May 08, 2008 at 01:30:38 PM PDT
much from Andrea Mitchell and Morning Joe? I know the original Huffington Post article did not mention the interest rate or extravagent expenditures. If you read the whole Huffington Post article it does not even assert that the Clinton campaign asked for any money from the Obama campaign or that the Obama camp is considering paying ay money to Clinton.
I would really like to track dow the source of these rumours. Did they come from Fox News and if so what show on Fox News?
by katieforeman on Thu May 08, 2008 at 02:21:11 PM PDT
I can't find a source for that 33% interest rate anywhere.
Here is a link to the original story in the Huffington Post that started the rumor that the Clinton campaign wanted the Obama campaign to pay-off its campaign debts.
If you read the whole article you will see that the headline and lead paragraphs are very misleading. In the body of the article it just says that it would not be unprecedented for the winner to pay-off the losers debts and quotes some anonomous sources that the Clinton's might not have as much money as people thik. However, nowhere does it say that the Clinton campaign asked for money from the Obama campaign or that the Obama campaign considered paying money to the Clinton campaign.
If you ca find me a reliable source anywhere that does not just site the Huffington Post story I would really like to know. Even the Huffington Post never claimed that the Clintons were being paid interest.
We should not let DailyKos be used to spread rumors no matter who it helps or hurts.
Thank you for being skeptical.
by katieforeman on Thu May 08, 2008 at 02:14:21 PM PDT
I absolutely agree that it would be outrageous for Obama's small donors to pay-off the campain debts of the Clintons. The Clintons have made over 100 million dollars in the past few years and Bill CLinton has the ability to earn huge sums of money very quickly on the public speakig circuit and from book deals. For a party that believes in a progressive tax system paying off the debts of rich Democrats with campaign donations from small Democratic donors is flat out wrong.
However, the original headline and lead paragraph from Tom Edsall at the Huffington Post was very misleading. Here is a link to the original post:
If you actually read the whole story there is absolutely no evidence that anybody in the Clinton camp ever asked for Obama to pay-off the debts or that anybody in the Obama camp ever offered. The story only says that it would not be unprecedented for the winner to pay-off the debts of the loser and quoted anonymous sources that the Clintons needed the money.
Using misleading headlines and lead paragraphs is wrong whether its from the right or the left.
