...opening night too!
But, I also really want to thank you for your past film "Martian Boy", I thought that movie was a fantastic snapshot of US attitudes to children, education, and parenting. Your performance was swell and so was the kid's!
More than that though, it's rare to find such an honest portrayal of the utter complexity of being a child, especially a disturbed child, or for that matter of being a parent! Those two issues, situations, life-changing events, were explored so genuinely in your movie. Thank you.
Oh, and welcome to the complex craziness that is dkos also!
Sorry to hijack your response comment, just rying to make sure you get the props you deserve :-)

If only it had been a slightly better movie. As it is, not bad. It's men and women desperately struggling to understand one another (and generally failing in some crucial, but unintentionally funny way) that makes the world go around.
Or it's money. I can't quite remember.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
I've lost a brother and a sister so far in my life. Not in Iraq, but one from brain aneurysm and the other through another kind of needless, senseless death.
My heart hurts for you. Losing anyone you love creates such an empty place. It's hard to know what to put in the place that used to be so full the day to day-ness of loving someone for so long. In time, that place will be full of your heart memories of the lifetime you shared, but right now, I understand the feeling like someone just turned out the lights and you don't know how to turn them back on again.
Be patient with yourself and your sadness. You will find your way.
Right after my Mom died a few years ago, my son, who was not yet three at the time, told me that "Baba" had come to see him and told him to give me a message. I asked him what Baba wanted him to tell me. He said, "She said to tell you 'It's gonna take some time, honey'.
Focusing on the big picture helps. I made a special journals about each of them that I still write in when I want I miss them and want to connect with them.
It all helps, but as my mother said, "It's gonna take some time, honey."
My heart truly reaches out to yours, and I will keep you in my thoughts, with hope that you can find some healing and peace.

could have paid for health care for every man, woman and child in America. 3 trillion could have paid for serious investments in solar and wind power. I'm sure you saw the article recently about plans to turn the Green Zone into the next Beirut. Ick.
I'm nervous about Iraq right now. The Administration is talking about striking a Shiite training camp in Iran to send a message to the Iranians about meddling in the Iraqi conflict. The thing is, it's a clear indication that American forces are focusing most of their energy fighting Shiites in Iraq and the Mahdi Army! Many Iraqis joined the Mahdi Army and began following Al-Sadr in the first place because we crippled the country economically and he offered them work and support. Sorry for the rant, I'm just becoming increasingly nervous that we're about to do something very stupid.
Looking forward to the new movie ;)

that we could have saved billions and billions of dollars by contracting Iraqi companies to lead the rebuilding effort rather than the Americans...Turks and all the other foreign companies we brought into the mix in Iraq.
We could have enriched the lives of the Iraqi people by hiring them and boosting their economy. I wonder how strong the Mahdi Army would be right now if we had provided jobs to the Iraqi people?

Apart from the fact that we're about the same age (mid 40s), I like most of your movies, identify with a few of your roles, suspect we have a certain philosophical kinship, share similar musical tastes (if Grosse Pointe Blank and Hi Fidelity are anything to go by), Hi Fidelity is the movie I tell my friends to watch if they want to see what my life was like when I was 17-21. I did, indeed, work in a record store, though a much larger one, in Vancouver BC.
All of the staff were either musicians, musician wannabes, groupess or "other" (which was usually a few staff who knew each other outside of work, as with 4 recent Filipino immigrants). A few went on to start their own independent record stores. I dated the girl who updated stock numbers and re-supplied 45"s for WEA. We hit Dave Edmunds, Ramones concerts together and shared a love for XTC. I discovered Anais Nin in her apartment (well, Anais Nin's books, actually). We ALL made mixed tapes for friends and especially significant others.
I have tons of zany stories which would have fit into that movie. The guy who stocked our warehouse could tell you the album name and artist of any record if you gave him the catalogue number... honest! When I saw HiFidelity I not only laughed, I relived my past life, including some of the insane misperceptions I had about women (I have different misperceptions today).
In a nutshell, I think of you as a better-looking, more successful, wealthier, probably more intentionally funny, celebrity version of me. At any rate, you absolutely nailed my past life with HiFi.
Thank you for making movies like HiFi, GPB, War Inc, Grace is Gone, Say Anything... they help keep me sane. Or at least only marginally insane. Thank you also for being an activist on these issues--no matter what crap you get from some quarters, your celebrity gives you the power to influence in ways we regular folks cannot.
I hope it doesn't come at too great a cost.
(PS Your sister seems to be an absolute riot--is she as funny in real life? Lucky you to have such a productive and supportive relationship.)

it's cusack again..i need to figure out how to awsner peoplle on this site as i'm new to the blog world...so bear with me..that said i wanted to say this about war inc--- please go to the my john cusack my space page or face book page and checkout all the articles and the amazing quotes we'e gotten from artist and journalists and progressive activists about the idea's and message and reason for war inc. i hate to sound cliched but this really is a test whether a film can break out only with viral support…the viral support has fueled everything from booking talk shows to political writers (not enetertaiment writers ) wanting to write about it… we have used quotes of support from people we actually respect and admire --who's opnions matter to us..not the noraml press junket stuff... this really is a viral campaign to promote a punk rock movie that is supposed to make people uncomfortable…it was made by and for people who are tired of the corporate propaganda we being force fed. made by and for people who think subversion should be fun! it’s supposed to feel good to tell the right folks to go to hell…the biggest antidote to that sense of corparatist inevitability is being with people and sharing experiences and doing things– a movie isn’t everything but it’s ain't nothing either…it a part of a large converstaion...
the real test is can we mobilize enough people to go opening weekend so that the small company that did take a risk distributing it will HAVE to put it in more theaters in the other major markets– all we need is to sell out the opening weekend in new york and la. the angelica and the landmark… if we do--- all the credit will be from alt media like crooks and liars and daily kos and all the political blogs! you are what’s making this happen! also if you haven't seen it check out my interview with naomi klien on huffpost.. if it doesn't make you angry enough to go see the movie at least read her great book
