Too many of these "final nails" dont seem to stick for Clinton.

and THEN nail it, maybe that will work?
Did you know Barack Obama doesn't like sweets OR bubblegum? I TOTALLY cannot vote for him now, thanks for the info Sasha! (gotta love the kids) :o)

Maybe we have it all wrong. The more Miss Inevitability gets down and acts out at this point, the more she will drive her own erstwhile supporters into abandoning her. She might be the best recruitment tool Obama has going at this moment.
My god, we've discovered how to turn mobilization of the anti-Hillary base to the favor of Democrats! Think about that. Obama can run in the general as the Clinton-slayer and garner Republican votes.
And just a few more weeks of this and we can be 100% sure that no Hillary or Billary or their descendants will ever haunt the Democratic nomination process again, ever!
Run Hillary Run! You're only now reaching your Nader!

Now that I've started reading the Hillary version of Little Green Fuckballs, I'm hoping she stays in a while longer as these people are entertaining as hell.

I guess. I think she's staying in just to get more folks to contribute to her campaign to pay off her debts.
by bethcf4p on Fri May 09, 2008 at 09:29:16 AM PDT
... and it's legacy. Proving (I hope) that she can close this out with grace and dignity. Making sure FL/MI get some representation, I guess.

And, I had great respect for her at the beginning of the campaign. She just needs to walk away in a classy way; like Huckabee did. She has done very little in this campaign with grace and dignity; it's not her style.

If she is going to fight a negative campaign, and think that she can force Obama to give her the VP, I sincerely hope that Obama tells her to _________ (insert expletive of your choice)
Go Barack !
by mattinjersey on Fri May 09, 2008 at 10:42:35 AM PDT
I couldn't agree more. Why on earth would he want a VP like that?
by writerswrite on Fri May 09, 2008 at 12:08:58 PM PDT
Maybe I'm underestimating her. It's possible that she is so clever and in tune with the party that she realizes it's impossible for her to rehabilitate her dignity. Maybe she has reached the obvious decision that her only choice is to make herself a complete laughing stock and pariah, so that her former supporters will feel foolish for not getting with the new world order.
by steina on Fri May 09, 2008 at 12:08:43 PM PDT
running a camapaign has costs: staff, ad buys, fliers, venue fees, etc... For the past couple of months, the Clinton campaign has spent more than it has brought in (legally usable in the primary). Thus even though staying in the race may result in gross contributions, it sees to result in a net growing debt position.
Besides, if you are a Hillary supporter, are you likely to hand over big bucks when her biggest IOU is to Mark Penn??
by egoldstein on Fri May 09, 2008 at 12:08:50 PM PDT
She's crazy. Or, at the very least, suffering from a profound narcissistic disorder, and surrounded by people in the throes of Stockholm Syndrome. She and her team seem to have a suicide pact.
As well, your rationale assumes that sunk costs are meaningful in the calculus, which they're not (or shouldn't be). There's nothing to finish out. It's like the war in Iraq. You don't stay in it to honor the already-dead, or the costs you've already incurred.
by The Termite on Fri May 09, 2008 at 09:31:30 AM PDT
I'd also argue that anyone who believes s/he is well-suited to lead the free world has a certain degree of narcissism.
by Adam B on Fri May 09, 2008 at 09:36:38 AM PDT
Yes, she can continue to "fight" as that is her right, but since everyone knows that she has lost her fighting makes her look insane. If she was less egotistical about it and said, "Yes, things look bad right now, but I really want to go all the way to the convention." and did it without continuing to attack Obama that would be fine. But she is fighting as though she is the better, winning, more electable candidate.
by llamaRCA on Fri May 09, 2008 at 09:45:56 AM PDT
That's just it. The money isn't there! Who's going to pay her debts? She's being highly irresponsbile, and frankly, unethical.
by marabout40 on Fri May 09, 2008 at 09:37:48 AM PDT
Why would she put herself even further in debt?
I had been willing, until yesterday, to entertain the claim that she is in to ease the transition for her supporters, or to raise enough money to finish things off, or to end on the upbeat note of a victory in WV. But at this point, her campaign resembles nothing less than a concerted malicious effort to undermine the putative nominee's viability in the general, by insisting that he is "unelectable."
By the by, I'd like to know how Clinton plans to win the general with only 5-10% support among African-Americans. Probably less than that, now.

by llamaRCA on Fri May 09, 2008 at 09:41:03 AM PDT
but certainly selfish and shortsighted. The repercussions of staying in the race will hurt the democratic party, Obama and his odds against McCain, and her own political future.
by inkybod on Fri May 09, 2008 at 10:40:36 AM PDT
I agree with an article I remember reading a few days ago: She can't drop out as long as she keeps winning states. Her name has to remain on the ticket as long as there are racists that haven't voted. For her to drop out while these people are still voting on mass for her would be a slap in the face to over-70, white, "working class," over 5'7" but shorter than 6'2", blonds, who live in single-family dwelling within 5 miles of a community center. And, that is now our most important demographic group!!

In January and February, Obama outperformed expectations.
In March and April, he underperformed.
If Hillary can't smell the coffee the superdelegates will wake her up sometime during this month.
