Has become very familiar to me--a mated pair has chosen my block as a nesting site. The Twist? I live just outside New York City in New Jersey.
They do leave quite a mess, however...

...in all sorts of places. There's one that nests annually in Fenway Park:

But I don't begrudge Fenway its own bird!
They are really amazing--aren't they?

There's a spot in Addison, VT, that has some incredible birds; snow geese stopover there to migrate every year. Once I swung by on the way back form a business meeting just to check things out.
I found group of four red-tails flying together and one of them screeched just as it flew over my head.
Wow.

I think they have a couple of chicks, can't be sure though since I don't know the location of the nest. They've been here for the past few years, and thanks to the (now) milder NJ climate and the plentitude of food (in winter they kindly eat some of my rock doves), I think they stay year round.
They are, however, constantly picked on by a roving flock of grackles.

his nest on a building on Fifth Avenue?
And a friend of mine always goes to the Brooklyn Bridge in spring to watch the Peregrines that nest there.

Remember when Cristo hung The Gates in Central Park? A friend and I were walking through it, and we stopped near the Columbus Circle entrance to get a vantage point on all these orange fabric thingies.
As we were looking, we heard the distinct cry of a red-tailed hawk, which landed in a nearby tree, holding what looked like a mouse in its talons.
My friend John thought it was Pale Male. I don't know for sure, but it certainly might have been.
