The site mostly comprises of whiners and hopeless ideologues, but there is a group of pragmatists who bond together.  You'll learn real quickly about the nature of the Daily Kos.

I think what the President has accomplished in the last eight months and what he will accomplish with the health care reform bill should bring the smell of roses to any liberal.

    •  This site is actually quite conservative (0+ / 0-)

It doesn't really deserve its liberal reputation. Nader and even Kucinich are widely hated here, for example. And there are rants aplenty about "purity" and the like.

thanks for your reply; I am gratified that I have a kindred spirit here and would love to know who are other kindreds to share ideas with on Kos. I think it is a valuable forum to express ideas but I was taken aback by the unthinking vitriol that passes for civil discussion some engage in. I find the FDL crowd particularly unreasonable, though I do not dismiss all of their points out of hand.

Perhaps you could illuminate me on this point: It is my understanding that invocation of the Byrd Rule in reconciliation is required, and key elements of the reform package not connected with budgetary matters could be dropped or, even worse, sunsetted (sic)....rendering the reform unsuccessful over the long run. Does this sound right to you?

I should research this more and write a diary about the perils of reconciliation; alas, since my id name isn't slinkerwink, and I wouldn't be overusing exclamation points AND I would be going against the "fuck it...use reconciliation!" crowd...no one will read it it, but perhaps worth a try....look forward to more dialogue...

I'm not going to give it an HR, but I'll simply ask you to refrain from characterizing DKos in this manner:

The site mostly comprises of whiners and hopeless ideologues

It simply isn't true, and if you're aiming this at people working hard now on behalf of the greater good, you are about as honest as your average Wingnut, as these "hopeless ideologues" are not just working, but accomplishing a great deal through the means of participatory democracy.
I think you owe this Community an apology.

And BTW, what your opinions are on this issue are not relevant to my comment. Differences of opinion, handled correctly, are helpful to good debate.
Your comment is different, and the tone you use has been addressed by the Administrators of this site, as something not needed here.
I hope you take this comment in the (constructive) spirit intended.

I'm shocked to learn that 1 in 12 Americans do not know that the bird, is in fact, that word.

          then why come here?
I'm not saying don't, I'm just wondering why you'd want to hang out with whiners and hopeless ideologues like us.

            1. I don't spend that much time here
            1. When I do it's because I know there are enough sane lurkers that enjoy it when someone makes a point grounded in reality.  No place else to really talk about this stuff.  Believe it or not, most other sites are even worse.
