...comment and wishes to get their ratings privileges back can do so by writing me. joedemocrat is right; there will be less leniency toward HR and uprating abuse from here on out. Of course, 90% of such instances won't be caught. There are thousands of comments each day. But those who engage in this behavior will take their chances. Repeat offenders will have their ratings privileges suspended indefinitely.

Don't tell me what you believe. Tell me what you do and I will tell you what you believe.

in another diary who was puzzled because since last night the rating buttons are gone.

They were one of the upraters. I assume it is okay to post them a link to this and tell them to write you?  I think some people uprated it blindy being next to the tip jar and don't know.

Deoliver47 was right and deserves some apologies

I usually keep my nose out of the "advice-giving" on your role here. But I worry about the path you're taking right now...not from a one side or the other kind of  thing. But if you indiscriminately punish only 10% of the abusers that you happen to see or hear about on something that is this unclear, I fear that it will only make matters worse (not to mention the clogging your your email LOL)

I know you're planning on writing a diary about the rules soon, and I look forward to that - perhaps it will clarify some things more me and others. But in the meantime, I'll just share with you some of the best advice I ever got in my professional life as "the boss."

The best way to discriminate against someone is to not tell them what the rules are.
