  •  On the JROTC manual... (0+ / 0-)
Good diary overall, but I think you should double-check on whether the JROTC Leadership and Training manual that you cite is a nationally-distributed booklet, or was perhaps produced locally for one high school.

The link you provided isn't working for me. I searched Google, and came up with nothing but this dkos page and one other link.

It's their core curriculum American history textbook. I have the PDF of it. Bruce (a.k.a. Troutfishing) and I were looking at curriculums when I was writing my series on the American history lies in the National Council On Bible Curriculum In Public Schools (NCBCPS) curriculum on Talk2Action back in 2007. Barton is on the Advisory Board of the NCBCPS, and so, like Bruce mentioned in his diary, he was googling around while we were on the phone one day, and found the JROTC American history textbook. Needless to say, we were both shocked (even though it takes quite a bit to shock us after all we've seen of how far Christian nationalism reaches into everything).

So, oddly, David Barton is actually responsible for me ending up working for the Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF), because the piece I wrote on Talk2Action about the JROTC curriculum is what led to me and Bruce being introduced to Mikey Weinstein, and I'm still working for MRFF over three years later. Without David Barton, I might never have gotten involved in fighting the Christian fundamentalists and dominionists in the military, or even have found out just how huge a problem this is.
