Cordoba House is not at the World Trade Center site.  It is near it.

    Here is a map.

You can easily see the construction site that is the World Trade Center (Google really needs to update that photo).

The blue push pin is the proposed Cordoba House.

The red push pin?  That is Masjid Manhattan  a Muslim prayer room and non-profit group that has been there... just 200 or so feet away...since 1970.

1970!!!  And no one has ever said a word.

Now... another picture.  The link below will bring you to a Google street view of 45 Park Place, the proposed construction site. (It's the old Burlington store with the fire escapes.)

Do a little spin around and see what you see when your on Park Place over there.  I can tell you as a life long resident of New York City, and from the fact that 1)my mother works down the block and 2)I can remember being in that Burlington store when it was open....

You can't bloody see the WTC site!

This is an argument over nothing. It is simple- the 1st Amendment protects freedom of religion.  Done.

Well said, I think you just put an end to the diarists whole post. Somehow many people just can't understand that the controversy isn't about the Muslim community center it's about religious bigotry rearing its ugly head all across the USA.

      •  Look a little closer at my post, and yourself (0+ / 0-)

The idea of a dialogue in which all of these communities will join hands in building a community center together IS NOT IN CONTRUST TO BUILDING A MUSLIM COMMUNITY CENTER! I DO NOT OPPOSE SUCH A CENTER! I am FOR a new spirit of inter-faith dialogue so that we may show them that cooperation is good.

St. Paul Catholic Church and Battery Synagogue can join forces with the new Muslim community center!

FOR SOME OBSCURE REASON EX-PROGRESSIVES ON THIS SITE SEEM TO BELIEVE THAT EVERY MINOR WIN IN THE BATTLE FOR THE HEART OF AMERICA, SUCH AS THE 9-0 VOTE TODAY, IS THE END OF THE STORY.

I WANT US TO WIN IN NOVEMBER, I DON'T CARE THAT MUCH ABOUT THE MOSQUE IN AUGUST! THIS BATTLE IS WON - BUT WE HAVE LOST A HUGE PORTION OF THE POPULATION THAT SUPPORTED US IN 2008 IN THE PROCESS! DON'T BELIEVE ME? ASK YOUR GRANDPA.

It's tiresome to defend something when this reaction was entirely predictable.

This never, ever should have had to be defended in the first place.
