    Perhaps the "genius" assumption and the "competent, honest prosecutor" assumption are not mutually exclusive. Under current political circumstances, a less wily prosecutor might have seen his case derailed somehow by now.

    Fitz is perhaps exactly the smart AND honest person we need. Certainly plenty of others have tried in good faith to stop the Cheney/Bush machine... and failed.

    And indeed, it appears that the criminal justice system is an extraordinarily important part of our bulwark against abuse of power... separation of powers notwithstanding.

      You're damn right about squashed.  The adulterous combination of the Rove spin machine and the attorney general's office was bad enough.

      If there is one republican that actually deserves an ounce of credit for a semblance of integrity it is Comey for appointing Fitz.  The man knew exactly what he was doing and who he was siccing on this administration.

      Frankly, I was shocked by the perfection of the appointment.  Comey must have been very shaken by what he saw going on.
