that out of 435 seats, only nine have no clear favorite?

Both parties (though the GOP has really stepped it up a notch) have contributed to gerrymandering the Congressional districts so that few Representatives have to worry about being re-elected. Nine tossups? That isn't even 3% of the total seats.

....and suggested it's a false list.  While there are not as many competitive races as there should, there are far more than nine.  The fact that we're pretending there are only nine will probably keep us from properly contesting several seats that we would otherwise win.

    •  Sad, yes. Glad too. (0+ / 0-)

The fact that it's six months before the midterms, when only political junkies like us are playing the slightest attention to the campaigns, and already the GOP is hanging on to nine seats by their fingernails, makes me wanna do the Snoopy dance.  It tells me that 2006 is shaping up to be a "wave" year like '94.  In a "normal" midterm year, that number would be more like ZERO, and the fact that the balance is so lopsided is just icing on the cake.

I'm starting to get more and more optimistic that Dems will gain 20 seats this fall, and of course I'll be working hard to ensure that WA-08 is one of them.
