    You're a peach! Thanks for the update - I much appreciate it. I just bought salmon last week, and I think it was probably farmed ... damn. I live in Indiana, and that's all we see. Forget asking the clerk behind the counter ... too often they don't know what you're talking about (and sometimes they even lie).

      when I worked in a Seafood dept. at a supermarket, the only time we got wild salmon was when Alaskan salmon was in season. The rest of the year it was farmed.

      I don't remember when the season was, but I'm pretty sure it was in the fall.

      When I lived in Chicago the fish I ate most was catfish.  After moving to Seattle I started eating a lot of salmon because it's so damn good.  Wild salmon is easily available here and I am lucky enough to have found a fisherman who sells in farmer's markets.  Same goes for halibut.  I don't eat catfish more than a couple times a year since moving out here.  I probably would not order salmon or halibut when I visit Chicago.
