  •  Thank you for this diary. (0+ / 0-)

I'm preparing a radio show for May 4th that is an extension of the Top 5 at 5 I do every day on the oldies station I work at. It'll also be a C&J post - I do that every day, but this one I want to make special with audio links and more than the usual graphics.I can use this stuff, especially the linkiness. If you know where any AUDIO is offhand, that'd be immensely helpful. I have the intro audio done; if you wanna hear it (:60) shoot me an email at the addy in my profile. I'd link to it but I can't figure out how to host the stuff. If anyone has any suggestions in THAT respect I would be fawningly grateful.

    NEVER AGAIN.

And I'd have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn't been for those meddling kids.(-8.50\-7.13)

is an audio documentary available at the WKSU website. It has the sounds and tapes from that weekend, including the infammatory comments by James Rhodes, then governor of Ohio. www.wksu.org/news/may4th This is interesting listening and it might help your show.

      •  Yeah, that's a good one. (0+ / 0-)

I'm going to listen to it intently tonight and edit from it tomorrow. Problem is, my cooledit at home won't record (something wrong with my sound card) and it's only available as a Realplayer. In order to render it editable, I'm gonna have to dub it off at work and bring it home on my flashboard.
Which is CERTAINLY worth doing! Thanks for that.

And I'd have gotten away with it, too, if it hadn't been for those meddling kids.(-8.50\-7.13)

I was in Kent every Friday nite spring of my senior year in high school (1969), and had good friends who were standing right there when the terrible deed occurred.

But let's also remember what happened at Augusta and Jackson State around the same time.  Those were people run over by the War Machine, too....

Do you have that wonderful radio bit called "Four Children Are Still Dead" by Pete Hamill? The repeated refrain is that it has to be true because I saw it on TV.

I have it on an album that I bought years ago. Even if my turntable works (not sure about that), I wouldn't have any way to turn it into a digital file and get it to you. But search around and try to find it because it's very powerful.

As for the "linkiness," my Part III (which I will probably post on Wednesday, May 3) is packed with them. But many of those will be photos so I don't know that they will help you all that much. If, however, you would like to see those links, I have a rough draft of the May 4 article with the links done and would be happy to share it with you. A lot of this is adapted from an article I wrote for the 20th anniversary of the shootings that appeared in American History Illustrated. You can find that posted here.

I'd be very interested in hearing your intro. My email address is in my profile.

      •  OK (0+ / 0-)

check your email, it should be there. And I'd love to see your rough draft. Please email me when your diary goes up so I can link it on the morning of May 4 when I do my C&J post.
