In some parts of the country, where hunting is prevalent, everyone has a rifle or shotgun it seems. There's nothing wrong with that. I live in such an area. I got a .22 rifle for my 14th birthday, but I couldn't touch it until I attended gun safety. After that I'd go hunting with my friends, no adult supervision. I'm not sure that's the wisest thing, but we knew how to handle our weapons and look before we shot (unlike Dick Cheney).

I don't have the stomach for hunting anymore, but I certainly have no problem with long guns. I love target shooting, although I haven't done it in years. Handguns, they're a different story. The design of the handgun is as an anti-human weapon, meant to kill people. You can make up scenarios of the challenge of target shooting, or needing them for protection, whatever. Doesn't change what the handgun was designed for. It's meant to be easy to carry and drawn quickly to kill a person. That's where most of the urban gun violence comes from.

Are you shaking or biting the invisible hand?

only for defense should I find myself arguing with a bear over who gets my pack and food.  Usually, throwing some rocks and shouting is good enough for most bears anyway.  Their heads are so thick you wouldn't want to try shooting one, even with a larger calibre'd just piss 'em off.  And for the record, I've never had to use it...nor wanted to.

Once in a while you get shown the light in the strangest of places if you look at it right
