    I'm from Chicago, but have been on the left coast for many years... and, sadly, have never made it to Waldheim.

    As for the diaries - the feelings are mutual.

      Two great series of articles--how can a person not love this place!

      I was a student at the University of Illinois on May 4, 1970, majoring in mathematics, which was housed in Altgeld Hall. Largely due to that coincidence, the story of Altgeld and his role in the aftermath of the Haymarket was one of the first incidents of the early labor movement I learned about.  Thanks for the excellent series.
