All of America is going to have to come to grips with the oil crisis.

Big Oil is going to have to carry their share of the burden.  So I do not criticize closing of excess profiteering, if that is the effect of Kerry's proposal.  Big Oil must be able, however, to continue its operations.

But Big Oil's burden is the least of the burden that has to be carried.  The biggest burden of all must be carried by all of us.  Gasoline right now ought to be costing several dollars more per gallon than it is right now.  Through market forces and greater taxes.

Demand for gasoline must be curbed.  To curb demand in America, the only thing we understand is pain in the pocketbook.  The first burden is not Big Oil, but big gasoline prices.

From there, we must have an all-out program to do several other things, such as, for example, non-stop building of nuclear plants, investment in biofuels, coal liquification, home solar installations, etc., etc.

Many prominent people think we've already passed Peak Oil.  People like T. Boone Pickens.  We must face the problem of peak oil and ever shrinking supply right now, and we're barely even talking about shrinking supply.

    That must change.

don't need to be freud incarnate to figure out which switch to pull.

Diversity is the key to economic and political evolution.

energy source has been demonized by Big Business/Oil for decades, but hemp, used joint-ly with other sources reefer-ed to by other commenters, might be the energy solution we need. (Sorry, couldn't resist.)

The advantages of hemp have been recommended by even the MSM, specifically ABC's Hugh Downs.  Check this excellent article and site for the straight dope. (Ok,I'll stop)

A hidden side benefit... when hemp begins to help save our collective ass, all those folks imprisoned by our ridiculous drug laws would hopefully be released, freeing up space for much more deserving neocons.
