    The point is to elect people to paid offices, and to pay the salaries of their campaign managers, other professional campaign staff, and...above all...to generate millions and millions of dollars in revenue for the media.

    In whose pockets do you think most campaign contributions end up?  Most campaign "management" firms are essentially media firms. They create ads, place them...and pay MSM a lot of money to carry them. To say nothing of all the newspaper reporters, political pundits, and TV and radio talk show hosts who depend on electoral politics for much of their livelihood. How much revenue do you think the 2004 election generated for the MSM in ad placements alone?

    Do you believe you can't win an election without spending lots of money on a big media campaign? Gee, I wonder who came up with that little bit of "conventional wisdom"...
