Not being a lawyer, maybe I was just speaking my 'truthiness'.  The language of the majority's Griswold opinion is a good deal weaker than I had expected.

I had thought a basic principle of constitutional law was that the people retain their 'natural rights' (thank you, Enlightenment!) despite relinguishing some of those rights in order to form a government, provide for the commen defense, etc.  Unfortunately, the definition of 'natural rights' (I take it) is not in the Constitution.  So I can see that anti-freedom idealogues could seize on that to restrict the definition of personal rights.

Is there a campaign going on for a privacy amendment?

      •  no campaign that I'm aware of (0+ / 0-)

Just a random article here and there.  It sure sounds like a winning issue to me however.  I'm not a lawyer either, but it seems clear that basing our pyramid of privacy rights on one court decision is awfully risky for our society.  And I would think that wingers would be just as terrified ... except that many of them really believe there will never be another Democrat in charge of anything.
