There's no doubt that I'm in there as a target - I've been to Afghanistan, I'm going back to Afghanistan, and I'm currently writing and editing a book with a group of Afghan scholars with proceeds going to an Afghan NGO.

My point was that the way to "safety" lies with the Congress doing their damned job - not changing carriers, because there's no such thing as communication that cannot be intercepted.

You can see photos and read the journal from my recent trip to Afghanistan here.

I agree that the ultimate solution is political.  I also acknowledge that my internet traffic could be monitored too.

But my switching away from Verizon is not just about my own privacy -- it's also intended to punish/send a message to Verizon.  So in that sense it's a politically motivated action.

on fed determination, point well taken.

on fed capability and capacity, well, that remains to be seen, doesn't it? after all, the fed's have the keys to -- if not assistance of --ONE significant source.

"equivocation" of information -- in theory and telephony engineering -- could well play its proper role in surveillance efficacy, politics, and industry competition, if consumers are encouraged to act out of the box. legally, of course.

at this point in time, there is practicable purpose and safety in greater numbers.

Diversity is the key to economic and political evolution.

    •  yes that is one source of 'safety' (0+ / 0-)

but security is stronger with many layers.

An additional source would be to use a friendly VOIP carrier, and make encrypted calls.

I dont see it as an either/or solution.
