  •  A different take on this; as a cause for hope (4+ / 0-)

OK, there are some really ugly ideas out there, and a disturbing number of people who adhere to them.  What EXACTLY Vox Day believes is not the point, there are clearly people all over the world who believe that wiping out the XXX would be a good idea.

But there have ALWAYS been such people.  In Guns, Germs, and Steel, Jared Diamond reports that, when the first Europeans got to New Zealand, tha Maori were busy wiping out the Moriori.  When asked why, they said

    Because they aren't us

Then, of course, the Europeans almost wiped out the Maori.  And so on.  Blacks, Jews, Native Americans, whatever, the idea of "Let's just kill them all" has always appealed to some.

But until about  150 years ago, no one (except the victims) really objected.  There were always some objectors, of course. But they were few.  Nw they are many.  Now, in the USA, it's the people who hold these views who are out on the wings.

Don't get me wrong - I'd be much happier if there was no one who held such views, and if holding such views was prima facie evidence of insanity throughout the world.  But I do take hope from the fact that we now look with scorn at what our ancestors once regarded as normal.
