Let's take the devil's perspective for a moment...

In this changing world, television will be fondly remembered in the way that we recall the wartime newsreels of the 1940's. This fact is not lost on the owners of corporate media, who have much corporate treasure to lose. What to do? Circle the wagons? Fat cats to the rescue! Our neocon leaders are only too happy to support this dying trade.

From this point forward, there will never be fair/factual reporting from the mainstream media, because they have made a deal with the devils (bush/cheney/rove) to ensure their continued profit stream. Bush and his brain are far too clever to leave anything as important as "the news" to real reporting. Armstong Williams was caught with his hand in the cookie jar, but many others (Judith Miller, Chris Matthews, Andrea Mitchell to name a few) are likely snacking on the federal payroll, or some other form of clandestine treats. It would be worthwhile investigating the finances of our most esteemed journalists. But I digress...

With all of the forms of media that are becoming available, there will be a tipping point, followed by a dramatic fall-off in viewership of television. Television will not be able to compete with more interactive forms of media. The only people who will continue to watch television are the mindless Fox News viewers.

Why not accelerate that process? I was formerly an avid watcher of news programming on CNN and the major networks, but since they have abandoned accurate reporting in favor of a more lucrative approach of fee-for-service reporting, they have lost all credibility. There is no point in watching. Watching reporters spin their way through talking points, I feel as embarrassed for them as I do for the hapless guests on the "Jerry Springer Show", minus the personal drama.

Turn off your TV sets! You have nothing to lose but your frustration!
