  •  I think of Thoreau and his call for us... (5+ / 0-)

to go to jail for tax evasion rather than pay for these crimes.

    •  I am ashamed of this (5+ / 0-)

Every month my taxes are deducted so I don't have a dramatic way of saying "I object!" at tax time.  But my husband is self-employed, and he writes those quarterly tax payments.  It kills me that we just keep sending them in as if everything is fine.  I have heard people argue that if everyone who objected to anything the govt did -- NEA, for example -- stopped paying taxes we would all be a lot worse off.  And in this admin there's no connection between how much they have and how they spend, so less revenue would probably just mean more debt, not "no war". Nonetheless, the way we support the govt, besides voting, is by paying $$$, and by that standard everything is just fine with my family.

      Ugh.

what if all of us who believe Gore should have been president, or the Iraq War is wrong, or the War on Terror (at least the way it's currently being addressed) is a figment of Rumsfeld's imagination, or any other of a hundred attacks on our country's integrity filed our taxes but refused to pay.

And we think our jails are filling up at a rapid clip now.
