I've posted some new arguments against working for a viable Green Party on my blog at http://geffen.blogspot.com/2004_03_01_geffen_archive.html#108014793235544717

Let me know what you think.

Last year, I advocated Terry McAwful trying to get Democrats to implement IRV in states where the Democrats could pass such legislation in an effort to diminish any "spoiler" effect of Nader. However, the idea fell on deaf ears and the Democrats would prefer to just complain about Nader then to actually try to create a democratic process that would be, well, more democratic.
On the flip side though, they should fear IRV because Nader did receive Republican votes in 2000 and will again now. So, Nader supporter's number 2s are not guaranteed to go to Kerry. As well, Libertarian Gary Nolan's number 2s could go to Bush as well as Kerry so ... while IRV and PR are "democraticizing" and "empowering" to people, it doesn't guarantee a Democratic victory. Which is probably why they decided to stick to the crying and bitching and moaning about Nader's candidacy instead of empowering the voters.
