    but do you think that Gore may be damaged goods in terms of name recognition to Joe America just because he happened to wind up on the wrong side of the Supreme Court decision?

      And the media would really have a lot to do with it.  Would they focus constantly on any evidence they could find that he was bitter?  Would the narrative be about his woodenness or painting him as some kind of wild-eyed radical over the last few years or some bizarre combination of the two?  Or would it be about how since 2000 he's grown and relaxed and become more comfortable in his own skin, about how much better off we might've been with him as president?  They really gave him a beating in the 2000 election, but if they decided to go easy or even be positive, it could make a real difference in how much he's seen as damaged goods now.
