  •  Feingold is (0+ / 0-)

is a retread in that he has been in D.C. for a long time and has a voting record in the Senate that can be distorted.  Please don't ask me to cite specific votes, because I can't but all Senators have them.  More importantly, he does not add any states to the list Kerry won.  Please don't take my criticism of Feingold as slam against the man.  I really do like him but want the democrats to win back the presidency at all costs.

I would not be so quick to write off the entire south.  There are several democratic governors there and if the democrats write of the south, they lose the election (see Gore and Kerry).  I think that Warner could easily hold onto all of the states that Kerry won and take Virginia, Missouri, Florida, West Virginia, Ohio and Iowa, no recounts needed, and make the GOP have to fight like hell to hold onto Tenn., Arkansas and Louisiana, and possibly North Carolina.

On the other hand, Gore, Feingold, Kerry and Hillary are going to have to fight for the same states Kerry won, as the GOP won't even have to spend a dime or any time in the south and will be able to concentrate on Michigan, Penn, Wisc., etc.

I just think Warner or Easley will move the battle lines.  Gore, Feingold, Kerry and Hillary don't.

Feingold defend his record and think he does a great job.  I agree with almost every position of his and think he'd make a great president.  However, I do not think he will be a good candidate for the democrats on a presidential level.  No matter how hard I try, I just can't see how he changes the electoral landscape.

Feingold will play especially well in most of these areas, I'd say he takes all of them by far more than Kerry did.

With the exception of his being Jewish Feingold "matches" well with W. Virginia as he opposed the assault weapons ban renewal and is against a lot of the trade agreements.  Given that Iowa is just south of Wisconsin I'd say he has a shot there too.  And Feingold is not without appeal in Florida.  All three "swing states" that Kerry lost are areas that Feingold may have more advantages in .

And, while all senators have bad votes, Feingold seems to have less of them than others as he has compromised far less.
