I was in London last month and noticed the pidgeon population was drastically reduced, also in the countryside we saw no chickens.  A few geese and plenty of pheasant, but not one chicken.  We stayed on two farms but I didn't think to ask about the dearth of poultry.  Have the Europeans been taking precautions by eliminating some of the avian population?

    •  hm, I don't know about pigeons (0+ / 0-)

They sure haven't decreased in Dam Square here.  Flying rats, ugh.

And there are lots of bird diseases (varieties of bird flu included) that could kill them off too.

I don't know anything about the chickens in the UK.  They haven't been culling them, so who knows why there are less of them.

I don't vouch for its accuracy but fyi I did happen to read this yesterday on pigeons & flu.  The writing is so overly cutesy I didn't take it seriously though.  Bottom line is they claim pigeons are bulletproof.
