You know, I agree that the media did a chop job on Mr. Gore's character, because I spent many hours writing to them to refute their BS... and that is the point. I can work with ANYONE who truly wants to save this planet... but I can't forgive that, and can't believe people are actually defending that now.

A chop job on Gore's character? He came across as stiff - a fact even he admits - that's not a character issue, its a style issue. That people saw him that way is a fact.

I think he must have had really poor advisors because he's quite animated in person, but those qualities weren't able to shine during the campaign.

that people were paying more attention to the media than their own perceptions.

All most people have to go on is what they see and few ever get to see a politician in person. The media didn't tell me to see stiff ... I could see it by watching the debates myself and making up my own mind.

I voted for Gore. The fact that he came across as stiff wasn't an issue for me because I knew otherwise and because I value substance over style.

Stylistically he was off his game. I don't see the point in pretending like everything was just fine.

all I stated was that he wasn't a "Gorebot." Of course, in some instances I think people also see what they want to see as well as what they only see, which is also the point. That's what brought us here, and why one movie review isn't going to forgive it all in my eyes. Again, I can work with anyone willing to sincerely face the climate crisis now, but that doesn't mean I will ever forget what their 2000 vote based on someone being "wooden" brought this country, and I shouldn't be expected to. But then, the fix was already in anyway, so perhaps in hindsight this discussion really is all moot.

Why does anyone care if he's stiff or not?  I'm following this discussion and I didn't think he was "wooden" or whatever.  He was just professional and attempting to be accurate in what he said.  Thoughtful would be the best description.

But even so, even if he was "stiff", who the hell cares?  I don't understand why that would effect anyone's vote.  So he's a nerd, big deal.

being professional and being a nerd was for whatever reason translated into not liking him, probably for the same reason such folks aren't well liked in school ... people vote for someone (or against someone) for all sorts of reasons which may or may not have anything to do with the candidates positions.
