Actually spend time with a number of them, B-in-L was Force Recon and I do work with Fort Carson troops here in Fort Dobson ( 10th Special Forces guys lift in my gym - that is intimidating)

These guys train and then train and then train. They are trained for specific job - engaging enemies in battle. They train like pro atheletes. I'm not saying they are better people or superhuman - just that the officers who came out of Vietnam had watched undertrained troops wasting their lives and refused to have that happen under their command.

So I do think they are the best at army versus army combat. But the best pro footabll player in the world isn't very good at ping pong.

i once saw john salley, the excellent former pistons basketball player, talk about how while in college he'd joined the fencing team on a lark, figuring his height and long arms would have him beating everyone his first day.  instead, he was humiliated, and said learning to become a competent fencer was the most difficult thing he'd ever done.
